NC State Football Recruiting Update – May 31, 2019

Upcoming Official Visits

3* LB Jayland Parker will be officially visiting State on June 21st. He will be making his college decision on July 1st.

3* OL Timothy Lawson will be officially visiting State in early June.

Decision Date – Part Deux?

4* CB Joseph Johnson, who was committed to State earlier this Spring, has created a decision date of July 4th for his next announcement.

Recent Visit

3* TE Sage Ennis recently visited Raleigh. At this point, it looks like it is going to be a tough battle to get him away from Florida State, but he had a really good visit to Raleigh as demonstrated by his Twitter page:

Top 6 Cut

We have made the cut for the Top 6 for 3* OL Joshua Jones from Georgia. We made it along with Florida State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and LSU.

New Offer

3* WR/CB Dominick Hill – 6’1″, 185. Attends Jones HS in Orlando, Florida. Rated the #178 Wide Receiver in the Country (3*) by 24/7 sports and Scout, the #39 Athlete in the Country (3*) by Rivals, and the #140 Athlete in the Country (3*) by ESPN. Hill plans to announce his college destination on August 1st.

He’s recently been asked to move to Defensive Back by his HS coach as demonstrated in this article.

Highlights of Hill

Upcoming Unofficial Visit

3* OL Alex Atcavage from IMG Academy will be unofficially visiting Raleigh on June 7th. He also plans to unofficially visit Minnesota on June 9th. Current intel suggests that he will be making his college decision by sometime in early July.

Taking the Lead…

We have taken the lead for 3* WR Stephen Gosnell from East Surry HS in Pilot Mountain, NC. As I stated in my last piece, Gosnell can do a lot of different things on the football field, and can be a difference maker at slot receiver or outside receiver at the next level. I would compare his film to a cross between Jordy Nelson and Eric Decker, with a little more overall athletic ability. I’ve heard from some of my sources in the East Surry area that he is a great kid who works very hard and would definitely fit the “blue collar hands in the dirt” mentality which Doeren likes, and the length/athletic type that McDonald covets.

We have also taken the lead for high 3* S Nekhi Meredith from Bishop Sullivan Catholic HS in Virginia Beach, VA. Meredith is rated the #28 Safety in the Country (3*) by 24/7 sports and Scout, the #22 Safety in the Country (3*) by Rivals, and the #32 Safety in the Country (4*) by ESPN. He reminds me a lot of a cross between Jarius Morehead and Earl Wolff on film. A little undersized, but makes up for it with tackling ability, pursuit angles, and good open field ball skills.

Roadrunner?

Commit 3* ATH Devan Boykin absolutely shredded his 40 time at the Shrine Bowl Combine about a week and a half ago. He trimmed his 40 time down from 4.72 to 4.5. He’s a very athletic prospect who will be very exciting to watch as he continues to develop his senior year at Ragsdale HS in Jamestown, NC.

Roadrunner Part Deux?

Commit 3* WR Nate McCollum continues to show off his wheels in baseball events. Here’s a clip of him running an electric 6.38 60 yard dash last week (to put that in reference, Trea “Burner” Turner ran a 6.25 60 yard time his junior year in college).

Camp Season…

NC State’s Football Camps will start up on June 6th. High School 1 Day Camps are on June 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22. High School 7-on-7 Camps are on June 14 and 21st. Specialist Camp is on June 8th. The Alpha Wolf Showcase should be sometime around June 16th. I would look for us to pick up several commitments during camp weeks.

End of the Evaluation Period…

The “Evaluation Period part of the Recruiting Calendar, as dictated by the NCAA, will end on May 31st. Then, the next period is the “Quiet Period,” which will last from June 1 – July 31st, with the exception of the “Dead Period” which is from June 24th to July 24th, which coincides with a lot of all-star combines and coaches’ conferences throughout the country.

Making The Cut…

We have made the cut for 3* TE Blake Smith from Carroll HS in Southlake, Texas. He is rated the #20 Tight End in the Country (3*) by 24/7 sports and Scout, a NR 3* on Rivals, and the #7 TE/H-Back in the Country (3*) by ESPN. He plays mostly QB for his High School team.

The Updated Hot 30 based upon the likelihood of landing:

3* LB Jayland Parker, 3* OL Alex Atcavage, 3* WR Stephen Gosnell, 3* OG Sean Hill, 4* WR Mushin Muhammad, 3* OL Jonathan Adorno, 3* DB Joshua Pierre-Louis, 3* S Nekhi Meredith, 3* OT Anthony Carter, 4* DE Desmond Evans, 3* OT Timothy Lawson, 3* TE Matthew Hibner, 3* TE Sage Ennis, 4* DT Henry Bryant, 4* DT Kendrick Bingley-Jones, 3* WR Jhari Patterson, 4* DE Jacolbe Cowan, 3* WR Antonio Barber, 3* WR/ATH Dominick Hill, 3* RB Elijah Green, 3* OL Joshua Jones, 3* WR Aydin Henningham, 3* DE Jamari Stewart, 3* TE Blake Smith, 3* ATH Chris Long, 4* ATH Ja’Quarious Conley, and 3* OG Vershon Lee.

PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star S NC State Commit Tristan Teasdell

Published

on

NC State picked up a verbal commitment from 2025 Safety Tristan Teasdell (6’1″/175) yesterday. I caught up with him to get a few thoughts on his commitment.

You received an offer from NC State at the end of March. How did the Wolfpack manage to make such an impression so quickly?

I feel like I fit in there scheme very well. They let their Safeties play free. They can come down hill and can also be very rangy! Another big part was the Coaching Staff. They talk to me almost every other day, so we have a great relationship.

Who is your primary recruiter? What is your relationship like with the coaches?

My primary Recruiter was Coach DeForest and Coach Aughtry-Lindsay. We have a great relationship.

Committing this early gives you a chance to become a recruiter. Are you looking forward to helping build NC State’s 2025 class?

I’m most definitely ready to built this 2025 class!

_____

Teasdell chose to run with the Wolfpack over offers from Miami, Duke, ECU, Coastal Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma St., Oregon St., Pitt, TCU, Washington, Notre Dame, USC and others.

After the Wolfpack’s Spring Game, Teasdell told me that NC State was in his Top-5. He is scheduled to take an Official Visit on June 7-9.

Teasdell plays for Tuscarora High School in Leesburg, Virginia.

NC State offered Teasdell on March 25.

Teasdell is now NC State’s 4th verbal commitment in the 2025 recruiting class.

3-Star DT Drayden Pavey is Taking an Official Visit to NC State

Published

3-Star 2025 Defensive Tackle Drayden Pavey (6’3″/305) will be taking an Official Visit to NC State on June 18th. He also has Official Visit’s scheduled for Purdue, Wisconsin and Arizona.

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY)

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

It’s not shocking that Young included the Wolfpack, because back on April 15th he shared that he had locked in an Official Visit to NC State for June 19-21. He also has Official Visits scheduled to Clemson (May 31), FSU (June 14), and Tennessee (June 21).

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.
