Red Light Explosion…

Recent Commits Include: 3* DT Davin Vann, 3* OT Patrick Matan, 3* WR Stephen Gosnell, 2* TE Ezemdi Udoh, 3* OT Jonathan Adorno, and 3* OG Sean Hill. All of these prospects committed over the course of six days. Matan was the only one that came out of the blue, but he is still a very promising prospect from a very highly regarded HS program in Washington, DC. Udoh is a very athletic and lengthy TE prospect who State just offered last week.

Highlights of Recent Commits:

Gosnell:

Vann:

Matan:

Hill:

Udoh:

Adorno:

Current Commits:

A quick rundown of our current commits in the 2020 class (based upon ranking from Rivals).

4* WR Porter Rooks, 3* QB Ben Finley, 3* DT Jayden Smith, 3* CB Ayden White, 3* WR Nate McCollum, 3* ATH Devan Boykin, 3* C Ethan Lane, 3* OT Austin Blaske, 3* WR Stephen Gosnell, 3* OT Patrick Matan,3* OT Jonathan Adorno, 3* OG Sean Hill, 2* TE Emezdi Udoh, and NR DT Davin Vann.

Important to note that we have already taken 5 O-Line prospects in this class and we are probably done at OL.

Currently, our class is ranked the #13 class in the country by 24/7 Sports and Scout and the #17 class in the country by Rivals (Rivals’ ranking does not include Davin Vann, he is still listed as NR with no stars in their database).

Current Spots Left:

Looks like we have 6-7 spots left in the 2020 cycle, depending on attrition. Conventional wisdom states that we will definitely try to land 2-3 DE/DT, 1 LB, 1 CB/S, and possibly 1 RB with the spots we have left.

Whiffed…

Several prospects have decided to commit to other schools since my last recruiting piece – 4* WR Muhsin Muhammad committed to Texas A&M, 3* DE AJ Beatty committed to UNC, 3* TE Matt Hibner committed to Michigan.

Upcoming Official Visits:

4* CB Joseph Johnson will officially visit Raleigh on 6/14, 3* DT Henry Bryant will officially visit Raleigh on 6/20, and 3* LB Jayland Parker will officially visit Raleigh on 6/21. It is no secret that our staff really wants to land all three.

Joseph Johnson is expected to announce his college destination on July 4th.

Recruiting Graphic about Johnson’s Official Visit:

Another prospect to keep an eye on for an official visit is 4* DT Kendrick Bingley-Jones. He is scheduled to announce his college destination on August 3rd and already has official visits booked to Florida (6/7), UNC (6/14), and Ohio State (6/21), per NCAA regulations he can take 5 official visits.

New RB Prospect Emerging:

RB Jabari Small from Briarcrest Christian Academy in Memphis, Tennessee was offered last Thursday. Small is 5’10”, 195, and is rated the #10 All-Purpose Back in the Country (3*) by 24/7 sports and Scout, the #12 All-Purpose Back in the Country (3*) by Rivals, and the #48 Running Back in the Country (3*) by ESPN.

Junior Stats: 141 rushes for 1,118 yards and 12 Touchdowns, 21 catches for 244 yards and 3 Touchdowns, 7 Kickoff Returners for 247 yards and 1 Touchdown (Long of 81 yards), and 1 Punt Return for 35 yards.

Highlights:

Narrowing It Down…

Target 3* OL Timothy Lawson has narrowed down his list to his top 3 schools in this Twitter announcement:

I fully expect Lawson will pick Louisville as his college destination later this week.

New Offer:

S Tyler Jones – Attends West Orange High School in Windermere, Florida. 6′, 180. He ran a verified 4.53 at The Opening Regional Event in February 2019. He has recently camped at Duke and State. He is not rated yet on 24/7 sports/Scout and Rivals. He is also a prolific track athlete, runs a 10.75 100 meter and 21.93 200 meter.

A Great Story About Jones

Highlights of Jones:

2002 NC State Graduate, School Administrator, Lifelong Pack Fan (Since my uncle graduated from State in 1937), Husband, Father, Workout Aficionado, Reader, Thinker, Recruiting Analyst in my spare time...

3-Star 2025 Defensive Tackle Drayden Pavey (6’3″/305) will be taking an Official Visit to NC State on June 18th. He also has Official Visit’s scheduled for Purdue, Wisconsin and Arizona.

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY)

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

4-Star 2025 Safety Jordan Young (6’0″/170) revealed his Top-8 schools today, and NC State made the cut along with Alabama, FSU, UNC, Clemson, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

It’s not shocking that Young included the Wolfpack, because back on April 15th he shared that he had locked in an Official Visit to NC State for June 19-21. He also has Official Visits scheduled to Clemson (May 31), FSU (June 14), and Tennessee (June 21).

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

This past season, Young had 66 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 1 interception and 3 pass breakups for Monroe High School. On the offensive side of the ball, he had 34 receptions for 812 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Young is planning to announce his commitment on October 12th.

4-Star Safety Jontae Gilbert Has Locked in an Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

NC State offered White back on March 1st.

While White hasn’t officially released a Top-8, he did say that the 8 schools that are standing out are NC State, Louisville, Tennessee, West Virginia, UCF, Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Utah.
