Dave Doeren’s Thursday Media Availability Prior to Wake: BULLETED

Published

on

NC State head football coach Dave Doeren met with the media yesterday prior to the Wolfpack’s season opener against Wake Forest tomorrow. Below is a bulleted breakdown of what he had to say.

Bulleted Breakdown

  • Had 105 guys at practice today. Highest it has been.
    • When we started after the 8-day break, the number was 45. Added back about 10 per day. Up to 84 a week after.
    • The 105 has been able to practice all week.
    • Nobody got out of quarantine yesterday and is totally out of shape.

Rickey Person

  • There will be a 5th game captain each week, and this week it’s Ricky Person.
  • He’s been through a lot physically. A lot of ups and downs with things out of his control.
  • Came back in January, and has done a great job keeping himself in shape in our Winter program and the quarantine period.
  • Really solid Fall camp. Didn’t miss a single day.
  • Has been showing leadership.

Situational Football

  • Spent a lot of time over the past 10 days on Situational Football.
    • 2 minute drill, 3rd down, red-zone, game-ending situations.
  • Couldn’t really do that after the 8 day shut down with 45 guys on the field when we returned.

Depth Chart

  • Some guys on the depth chart haven’t been back 2 weeks. Even 10 days.
    • Don’t expect them to be able to play the whole game.
  • On the other hand, Joe Sculthorpe, Grant Gibson and Ricky Person have played the entire camp and are in great shape.

Wake Rivalry

  • 3rd longest consecutive game rivalry in the country.
    • Based on what happens out west, they may not play those rivalries, and this could end up being THE longest consecutive game rivalry.
  • They have beat us three times in a row. We beat them three times in a row before that.
  • Our guys know what this game is about.
    • It’s an in-state game.
    • Play a team down the road we have a lot of respect for.
    • Coach Clawson and his staff have done a tremendous job.

Empty Stadium

  • It’s not empty. We’ve got sweet cutouts in there right now. Like 600 of them. I’m proud to say my dog is one of them.

NC State is an Early Underdog Against Tennessee in Week 2

Published

on

NC State will play Tennessee on September 7th in Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, NC) in their 2nd game of the 2024 College Football season.

DraftKings has released an early game line, and they have the Wolfpack as an early 5.5-point underdog against the Volunteers.

NC State is ranked in the Top-25 in most Way-Too-Early Preseason Polls, but so is Tennessee.

Action Network: NC State #24/Tennessee #17

ON3: NC State #22/Tennessee #15

247: NC State #21/Tennessee #11

ESPN: NC State #17/Tennessee #15

If NC State could find a way to pull off the upset (current) against Tennessee in Week 2, the Wolfpack could be setting things up nicely for a special season in 2024.

The Wolfpack are 1-2 all-time against the Volunteers.

McCall was at Coastal Carolina for his first 5 years, throwing for 10,005 yards, which is 6 more than the infographic from PFF above.

McCall transferred to NC State for his final year of eligibility, and he has the weapons in place to throw for 3,000 yards for the first time in his career. If he did, he would be the first Wolfpack Quarterback to do so since Devin Leary threw 3,433 yards in 2021.

Here’s a look at McCall’s highlights from NC State’s 2024 Spring Game.

The Athletic Includes NC State in Their Post-Spring 2024 Preseason Top-25

Published

on

The Athletic released their 2024 Post-Spring Preseason Top-25, and NC State landed at #21. Here’s what they had to say about the Wolfpack.

21. NC State

The Wolfpack made a huge acquisition at quarterback in landing Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall. They also added former Ohio State wide receiver Noah Rogers, a North Carolina native and one-time top-50 national prospect. It’ll be hard to overcome the loss of linebacker Payton Wilson, one of the best defensive players in the country a year ago, and there are plenty of personnel questions in the secondary. But Dave Doeren always has this team ready to go. (The Athletic)

ACC in the Top 25

10. Miami

12. FSU

18. Clemson

21. NC State

22. Louisville

Tennessee, who the Wolfpack will play in Week 2 in Bank of America Stadium, is sitting at #15.
