PI EXCLUSIVE: 2027 QB Mason Holtzclaw Breaks Down NC State Junior Day Experience

Published

on

On January 20th, 2027 Quarterback Mason Holtzclaw attended NC State’s Junior Day. I caught up with Holtzclaw to get his take on the expeirence.

Can you describe what the format of the day was? What did you do?

They split us up into our positions, and I went into meetings with the QB Coach. We talked about the lifestyle of being a QB. We also went over some coverage stuff. I got to talk to the weightlifting staff and the nutrition staff as well.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part about the experience was being able to sit down with Coach Roper, and him teaching us about to be a better QB.

Were you able to have any conversations with the coaching staff? If so, how did that go? What’s their recruiting pitch to you? What’s your relationship like with them?

I got to talk to pretty much the whole staff, which was great getting to meet all of them. I had some great conversations with Coach Roper, and we have a pretty good relationship. We get to talk on the phone a good bit.

Where does NC State currently stand in your recruitment? What schools are currently ranking the highest for you?

NC state is high on my recruitment, but I’m class of 2027, looking for every opportunity that comes my way.

_____

NC State hasn’t offered Holtzclaw yet, but he does hold offers from Kentucky, East Carolina, Toledo, Charlotte, New Mexico State, and Appalachian St.

After visiting NC State on the 20th, he has taken unofficial visits to UNC and Duke since then.

As a Freshman this Fall, Holtzclaw threw for 1,522 yards (50%) and 14 touchdowns (14 interceptions) for Christ School (Arden, NC).
