Sean Brown is Looking To Establish His Own Legacy Moving from Safety to Linebacker

Published

on

The news might have broke this week that Sean Brown had switched from Safety to Linebacker, but the move wasn’t a shock to Brown.

“Coach Gibby (Gibson) was kind of trolling me during the season last year, saying he was moving me to Linebacker, so I kind of knew it was coming once the season was over,” said Brown. “I talked to Coach Doeren and Coach Gibby, and they felt like it was the best decision for me. Talking with my family, they thought it was the best decision for me too.”

Watching Brown play last year, it isn’t hard to see what Coach Gibson saw. Brown was possibly the hardest hitting player on the Wolfpack defense, lived at the line of scrimmage, and his physique was developing more towards the body of a Linebacker.

Brown said that he has put 10 more pounds of muscle onto that already impressive physique, but he’s done more than hit the weight room this offseason to get ready for the move to Linebacker.

“This offseason, I was getting with Caden (Fordham) and (Devon) Betty doing some Linebacker drills. Also, I went back and watched Payton’s (Wilson) film, to see what he did good. I hit him up, and we talked about the keys to being good at Linebacker. Getting with him and watching film is going to help me excel at playing that position. Payton told me that at the WILL position, you have to be quick on your feet. You’ve got to make decisions right then and there. You can’t really hesitate, and whatever you do, do it full speed.”

Brown is following a similar path to another Wolfpack Linebacker from a few years back by the name of Germaine Pratt. Pratt played Safety and Wide Receiver in high school, and was a Safety at NC State his first two seasons in Raleigh, and ultimately switched to Linebacker during his 3rd season, which was a redshirt season due to injury. The move was successful, to say the least, with Pratt going on to earn 1st Team All-ACC honors in 2018, and went on to be drafted in the 3rd round by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he has served as a starter the past 5 seasons.

While Brown knows of the comparisons, he’s not looking to be the next Germaine Pratt.

“I just want to be Sean Brown. I want to be my own guy and build my own legacy.”

NC State is an Early Underdog Against Tennessee in Week 2

Published

on

NC State will play Tennessee on September 7th in Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, NC) in their 2nd game of the 2024 College Football season.

DraftKings has released an early game line, and they have the Wolfpack as an early 5.5-point underdog against the Volunteers.

NC State is ranked in the Top-25 in most Way-Too-Early Preseason Polls, but so is Tennessee.

Action Network: NC State #24/Tennessee #17

ON3: NC State #22/Tennessee #15

247: NC State #21/Tennessee #11

ESPN: NC State #17/Tennessee #15

If NC State could find a way to pull off the upset (current) against Tennessee in Week 2, the Wolfpack could be setting things up nicely for a special season in 2024.

The Wolfpack are 1-2 all-time against the Volunteers.

McCall was at Coastal Carolina for his first 5 years, throwing for 10,005 yards, which is 6 more than the infographic from PFF above.

McCall transferred to NC State for his final year of eligibility, and he has the weapons in place to throw for 3,000 yards for the first time in his career. If he did, he would be the first Wolfpack Quarterback to do so since Devin Leary threw 3,433 yards in 2021.

Here’s a look at McCall’s highlights from NC State’s 2024 Spring Game.

The Athletic Includes NC State in Their Post-Spring 2024 Preseason Top-25

Published

on

The Athletic released their 2024 Post-Spring Preseason Top-25, and NC State landed at #21. Here’s what they had to say about the Wolfpack.

21. NC State

The Wolfpack made a huge acquisition at quarterback in landing Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall. They also added former Ohio State wide receiver Noah Rogers, a North Carolina native and one-time top-50 national prospect. It’ll be hard to overcome the loss of linebacker Payton Wilson, one of the best defensive players in the country a year ago, and there are plenty of personnel questions in the secondary. But Dave Doeren always has this team ready to go. (The Athletic)

ACC in the Top 25

10. Miami

12. FSU

18. Clemson

21. NC State

22. Louisville

Tennessee, who the Wolfpack will play in Week 2 in Bank of America Stadium, is sitting at #15.
