Doeren Adds Huge DB Commitments in Davis and Vincent

Elliot Davis (likely a DB) and 4 star DB Troy Vincent both committed to NC State yesterday, giving Dave Doeren a very strong pull for next season. The class is now ranked #20 in the nation and #3 in the ACC.

The big get here was Vincent, who snubbed Penn State after verballing a while back. He switched his focus to NC State after Bill O’Brien bolted for the NFL. Here is a blurb from a Penn State publication, Penn Live.

Penn State cornerback commit Troy Vincent Jr. had an in-home visit with N.C. State Thursday night and by the end of the evening he heard enough to flip his commitment to the Wolfpack, according to a report from Scout.com.

Vincent Jr., who committed to Penn State in June, is the second player from the class to de-commit since James Franklin was hired on Saturday. Four-star defensive tackle Thomas Holley switched his commitment to Florida on Wednesday.

Sources close to Vincent told PennLive that the player was a solid verbal until recently when Franklin began questioning Vincent’s commitment to Penn State based off of whether or not he planned to take any additional visits to other schools. The Gilman cornerback and son of former All-Pro Troy Vincent was a three-star prospect and was one of the cornerstones of Penn State’s recruiting class.

This is huge for Doeren who needs some momentum after such a down year this past season.
