2016 Recruit Update: Dennis Smith

I’ll be honest, it’s a lot tougher to cover recruiting now that Mark Gottfried is in charge. This guy is all over the place, offering top notch guy after top notch guy. 2015 and 2016 are no different. The Gottfather has been on the road tracking some of the nations top players. We’ll be introducing these guys to you over the next week or so.

First up is a guy that Gottfried didn’t have to jump on a plane to go watch. Dennis Smith is a local kid from Fayetteville, NC. We’ve updated you on him before, but since we’re doing this full series on recruits we’re going to get a little more in-depth this time.

Smith is an elite PG and might very well be the #1 lead guard in this class when all is said and done. He is a 6’1, 173lb kid who is pretty much ACC ready right now. He’s got the quicks, the hops and the body to compete at the highest level and is coveted by the nation’s top programs.

If the name sounds familiar, it should. This was the kid who dropped 41 points in his coming out party at the Holiday Invitational last year in Raleigh.

This kids already has offers from UNC, Duke, Florida, Kansas, VCU, Wake and of course, NC State. I think it will be interesting to see how this recruitment goes for the Pack. I think the only way they land him is if Barber goes Pro early and he has a clear path to start from day 1. Outside of that it’s going to be hard to pry him away from the plethora of top tier schools that are after him.

If State did somehow win out here, they would be getting the best all-around PG in the nation. He’s a budding floor leader who can shoot, dish and handle the ball with the best of them. While he still needs to become more of a vocal leader, he’s pretty much got the rest of his game figured out.
