Dangeruss: Wilson Wills His Way Back to the Super Bowl

Down 2 touchdowns with 2:57 seconds left the Seahawks season was all but over, but a game is never out of reach with # 3 calling the shots. Russell Wilson was in the midst of his worst game of his career having thrown 4 INT’s and a passer rating below 15. Wilson shook off the uncharacteristic performance as he made big play after big play to bring the Seahawks even with the Packers. With 2:10 seconds remaining Wilson was up to his usual tricks having executed a beautiful zone read that faked out the defensive end which allowed him to waltz into the end-zone unscathed. With 2:09 seconds remain and only one timeout the Seahawks were forced to go with the on-side kick. Steven Hauschka came up with a clutch floater that looked like a Phil Mickelson flop shot, the ball hits a Green Bay player in the hands only to slip out and find its way to a Seattle player.

With the ball and 2:08 seconds left the Seahawks needed a TD in order to win the game. Russell kept the Packers off balance with a couple of runs and beautiful passes. Only to give the ball to Lynch who took it to the house. Leading by 1 the Seahawks elected to go for 2. This was one of those plays that displayed all of Russell’s talent as he scrambles around with seemly no hope only to see his tight end break free on the opposite side of the field…He heaves a throw that defied time as it floated in the air only to land safely in his tight ends hand’s putting the Hawks up by 3! The two point conversion proved to be all important as the Packers connected on a FG to take the game into overtime.

By winning the coin toss the Seahawks elected to receive the ball, per NFL overtime rules if a team scores a TD the game is over. In OT Russell showed the world, his teammates, and the 12s (Seattle’s Fans name) what makes him a unique talent. With the game on the line Wilson threw a dandy to Doug Baldwin for a 36 yard gain on 3rd down. Not to be outdone Russell connected with Kearse on the next play for a 35 yard TD that sealed the improbable come from behind victory!

Wilson was overcome with emotion as he was interviewed by Erin Andrews, he gave all credit to his teammates and thanked them for believing in him. He said that they never doubted themselves, it was evident as they pulled together to win against such improbable odds. Russell has all the attributes to be a good football player, yet it is his leadership skills and attitude that takes his game to the next level! This was one of the best games I have ever witnessed in the NFL. To make it even sweeter was watching the QB I watched countless times as a student at State overcome the odds on his way to many victories. I will always be a Russell Wilson fan. I knew he was special but like so many others I just didn’t know how special.
