Basketball Recruiting

Shaun Kirk Shuns Calipari, Inks with Wolfpack

Breaking news this evening is that Shaun Kirk the third rated prospect in North Carolina by ESPN Recruiting Nation has sent in his letter of intent to NC State.  His uncle and mentor Bryan Edwards has informed media outlets of the news.  Shaun Kirk should be a good four year player who has great potential and should have plenty of time to grow. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find some minutes as every scouting report on the kid describes him as ultra competitive with a high motor. As he adds muscle to his frame he should be able to use his quickness and explosiveness to give Gottfried another option to spell the Martin twins.

This is a big get for the Pack as Gottfried fended off Kentucky who tried to sweep in after Kirk verbally committed. Kirk currently plays for Team Loaded who also has Class of 2016 top recruits Dennis Smith Jr. and Edrice Adebayo (who have an interest in State).  Both of these kids are rated top 10 by numerous recruiting outlets. It is not that big of a secret as to why Kentucky wanted to scoop Kirk as it would have given them more ammunition to lure them to Lexington.  Hopefully Gottfried and his staff can use this signing to get a leg up on both Smith and Adebayo. These kids are not only gifted athletes but are physically mature for their respected class. Both would excel in Coach Gottfried uptempo attack.

Hear the staff is going after some transfers to fill guard spot. If they land a decent backup PG/Combo Guard this late in the game, I will be truly amazed and take back all the bad stuff I said about them. If we only had 1 scholly and we had to choose between a decent PG transfer and the Greek 7 footer, which would most people choose? I think I would go with the 7 footer and take my chances on the backup PG being Lil’ Corch, Henderson, or Twin. Also, someone on another blog was lamenting the fact that… Read more »

gdtann Wolfer96 wolfpack74 I must be growing on you.  This is the second time that you have agreed with me since Kyle and Lacey departed.

Wolfer96 wolfpack74 I’d honestly would feel more comfortable if we can add a combo guard grad transfer somehow.  Something may in the works since we cancelled that visit with the UNCA guy.  We’ll see.  If we get a combo guard who can score, I’d be happy with how Gott has rebounded from Lacey leaving.

wolfpack74 We could use a PG and/or that 7 footer from europe. However, after losing Turner and unexpectedly losing Lacey who we’ll be missing the most in terms of scoring, creating, and ball handling; the question now is less to do with depth or positional but who will make up the scoring? No matter who we bring in can they replace the scoring of a 5th year senior and a 4th year junior? I see Kirk more for depth and coming off the bench to give guys a breather the 1st season. Not a guy that will come in right… Read more »
