Josh Langford: 2016 Top 15

NC State is all in on the 2o16 recruiting class and is making sure the top targets know that NC State has a lot to offer. Josh Langford is another top talent hailing from Alabama and uses a variety of skills to put his 6-6 frame in good spots on the floor. Gottfried has made the trips to familiar Alabama a couple of times to see Langford compete.

Why is he a top 15 recruit?

Josh is very good at using his frame and size to shield defenders as he attacks the paint. Standing at 6-6 and weighing around 215 pounds gives him a great advantage over many shooting guards in high school. This will change once he arrives on campus but looking around there are not too many shooting guards that possess his combination of height and build.

Langford is also well rounded offensively. I am encouraged by watching his highlights as he shows he is capable of scoring in tight areas and displays multiple moves to counter defenses. It is no question that Josh is usually the most athletic player on the court each time he plays; however, he still uses good skill moves to score. This shows that once he is in college he will be able to adapt quickly because he will have something else to rely on instead of his athleticism. A comparison that has been thrown around when talking about Josh Langford’s game is Jason Terry. Josh is a bigger prospect than Terry but possesses a similar shooting form and ability to create off the bounce. There is little doubt that Langford will have trouble putting points up at the next level.

Can Gottfried and his staff lure another player to Raleigh from Alabama?

Coach Gottfried has landed two solid players to Raleigh thus far with Alabama ties in Ralston Turner and Trevor Lacey. Both of these players spoke about how their relationship with Gottfried prior to him coming to State were huge reasons as to why they decided to transfer to State. Gottfried will have intense competition in trying to gain Langford’s commitment as he is on everyones radar. Currently his list includes everyone from Alabama to Gonzaga. It will be interesting to see who is left on his list once he trims it down.
