EXCLUSIVE: Dakereon Joyner Talks State Camp

Here is a name that you should remember: Dakereon Joyner (6’1″/173).  You might not recognize it now, but you will one day.  Last season Joyner (North Charleston High School, South Carolina) was named a MaxPreps Freshman All-American.  Yesterday, the 2018 Quarterback Joyner and his team were up at NC State Camp for the 7-on-7 session.  We were able to catch up with Joyner afterwards, and he said he spent a lot of the day talking to the NC State coaches.

“Coach Kitchings, the running back coach, is the recruiting coach for our area,” said Joyner. “I talk to him often, and he always comes down to see me.  I pretty much spent the whole day talking with him and the offensive coordinator (Matt Canada).”

Some players don’t even get on college coaches radar until after their Junior season.  Joyner’s recruitment began before he even reached the 8th grade.

“The recruiting process started going into my 8th grade year,” said Joyner. “In fact, NC State was the first college to come and see me my 8th grade year.  They just haven’t offered me yet.”

Even though Joyner’s recruitment started early, it still has a long ways to go.  He is in fact a 2018 prospect.  With that being said, when we asked him who his top schools were at this point, he said that his Top-4 were Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia.  All of those schools have offered Joyner with the exception of Alabama.  It is very early, and it will be very interesting to watch how Joyner develops as a player and how this list shakes up over the next couple of years.
