Back on May 21st 3-star 2016 Tight End Bryce Dixon committed to Old Dominion.  Dixon hasn’t stopped camping at and visiting other schools.  On June 8th, Dixon camped at NC State and left that day with an offer in hand.  Then he came back and visited last Thursday, June 18th.  We talked with Bryce and according to our conversation, his verbal commitment to Old Dominion must be a very “soft” one at this point, because he told us that NC State is at the top of his list at this point.

“At this point I would say NC State stands out the most, because the most important thing for me is for my family to be able to come to the games, and being close to them,” said Dixon.  “Right now, I would say NC State is at the top of my list.”

When we asked him what other schools were recruiting him the hardest, he failed to mention Old Dominion, but did list Miami, Louisville, Missouri and Tennessee.

He described what his experience at NC State camp was like back on June 8th.

“It went really well.  The coaches really connect with you on a level that you don’t expect,” Dixon said.  “They make you feel welcome and that they actually want you to be there.  They want to develop you as more than a player, but as a man as well.  I really enjoyed it when I was down there.”

While he was at camp that day the NC State coaches offered him, and he explained how that how that process went down.

“During the 7-on-7 session, the coaches pulled me into the indoor facility, and that is when Coach Doeren offered me,” said Dixon.  “They went through what I would do for them, and how I would contribute in my role when I got there.  They went through the offense with me, and showed me exactly where I would play for them.”

Dixon has played wide receiver and been recruited as one for quite some time, but he has officially made the transition from wide receiver to tight end.

“The transition hasn’t really been difficult.  The only difficult part has been learning stances and starts, and coming out of a three-point position,” said Dixon. “It’s a role I embrace, because my top priority is doing what is best for my team right now.  If it means that I have to block more now, that’s ok, because it will show coaches that I can get out and block down field.”

Transitioning to a new position can be difficult, and the transition from high school to college can be a tough one as well.  Dixon thinks that a transition to NC State would be fairly easy for him.

“I really do think NC State’s offense could be a good fit for me, because the offense we run at my high school (Green Hope High School) is based on their offense,” Dixon said.  “My coach went to a coaching clinic at NC State, so all of our offense is based on theirs.  That transition would be easier because I would already know the formations.”

As of now, Dixon doesn’t plan on camping anywhere else this summer, and plans on making his decision before the start of football season
