Nyheim Hines wins N&O Male AOY Award

Incoming Freshman Nyheim Hines was just honored by the News & Observer with the Male Athlete of the Year Award. Everyone should read Tim Stevens’ article on Hines, but I will highlight a couple of things that stood out to me.

1. Hines is smart. He finished with honors with a GPA of 3.93. You have to be smart to include AP statistics as one of your favorite classes.
2. He wants to find a way to both play football and run track at NC State. He is a state champion and top-5 nationally in numerous events.
3. He’s the new record holder for rushing yards in a career with 2,362. Many great running backs have come through Garner High School, including NC State great Anthony Barbour.
4. He said that people might be surprised that he enjoys doing acrobatic flips. Nyheim…my man. Your 720 flip-and-catch went viral.
