Eric Douglas Talks NC State Offer

4-star 2017 Offensive Lineman Eric Douglas visited NC State on Saturday during their last day of camp.  We caught up with him shortly afterwards to get his take on his experience.

“On Saturday I did one-on-ones with Coach U.  He’s a great instructor of the game.  We had finished one-on-ones and Coach U told me to go talk to Coach Doeren.  I went over there and talked to him, and he said he wanted me on his team, and he wanted me to be a part of the Wolfpack, and he gave me a scholarship offer,” said Douglas.  “My coach was there with me when Coach Doeren offered me, but my dad wasn’t, because he had dropped me off, so he talked to my dad on the phone.  I don’t know what they talked about, but I know that my dad loved it, and he said that Coach Doeren was a class act.”

Douglas has two other offers on the table, and both of them come from the state of South Carolina: Clemson and South Carolina.  NC State is the first school from his home state of North Carolina to offer, and he expressed his desire to stay close to home.

“Its’s great. It’s a good feeling. I want to stay close to home,” said Douglas. “I don’t want to go play out in Oregon or anything like that.”

When Douglas came to Raleigh back in January for Junior Day, he took a tour of the facilities and the dorms, and was excited to learn about NC State’s academics.

“Academics are the most important thing that I’m looking for, because I don’t want to make a 4-year decision, I want to make a 40-year decision,” said Douglas. “I want to study broadcast journalism, and Coach U told me that NC State was one of the only schools that had a studio for broadcast journalism, and I thought that was pretty cool.  Most schools don’t have that.”

Douglas plans on visiting NC State again on July 24th for family day, before embarking on a highly anticipated season with the preseason Top 10 nationally ranked Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte.
