INTERVIEW: 4 Questions With Curt Britt

On Wednesday, June 10th, NC State pitcher Curt Britt found out while standing in a Verizon Wireless store that he had been drafted by the Miami Marlins with the 566th overall pick in the 19th round of the MLB draft.  We were able to catch up with Curt, and get his take on being drafted and what his one year at NC State meant to him.

Take us back to he moment when you realized you had been drafted by the Miami Marlins…

Pretty surreal. I honestly was planning on, and was excited about going back to State for my senior year. I was in Verizon Wireless, of all of places, upgrading my phone. The guy was trying to back up/restore my phone and I had to keep taking it from him because my phone was blowing up. I am very thankful for the opportunity the Miami Marlins have given me.

What did your one year at NC State mean to you?

Transferring to NC State was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. I enjoyed every moment of it, from the fans, to my teammates, and the coaching staff. This was one of the closest teams I have ever been apart of. I made new friends and new memories that I am very appreciative of. Wolfpack Nation was great!

On how this year at NC State has prepared you for this step…

NC State has helped prepare me for pro ball in a lot of ways. Just like most otherOn  colleges, routine and schedule is very important. Having been on a schedule my entire college career is making the transition to pro ball a lot easier, especially not having to worry about classes and study hall. Also, the mindset and the discussions we had throughout the season have really helped me. Coach Avent did a great job relating different scenarios and things to us as well as teaching us life lessons. Coach Foxhall simplified the game for me, the way he taught made the game of pitching much more simple for me, which I will continue to carry throughout my career.

My highlights from this season were…

The highlight of my season was definitely between the two walk off home runs against UVA and the walk off against Miami in the ACC tournament. Those were crazy memories that I will always remember. More importantly, the highlight of this past season was being able to play with some of the best guys and staff around. I enjoyed my time at NC State and I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me. Everyone was first class and made me feel welcomed as soon as I got there.
