On Friday night, NC State landed a commitment from 2016 3-star Tight End Bryce Dixon.  We caught up with Dixon this weekend and talked to him about the decision to flip his commitment from Old Dominion to NC State.

“I was just going back over everything after all of my visits, and taking it all in.  I was picturing where I could see myself over the next 4 years,” said Dixon.  “Looking at the academics, NC State has a lot of jobs, or job connections, through what they do.  They also have the business marketing degree that I want, because I want to work in sports management.  From an athletic standpoint, they have a good football team, and I can see Coach Doeren taking the program far. The unique way in which they do weight lifting and nutrition really stood out to me as well.”

Every school has a weight lifting program, but Dixon went in to great detail about the unique weight lifting and nutrition program that NC State has.

“They put you in this thing called the “bod pod.” Then they put you on a weight and nutrition plan,” said Dixon.  “Then they put you on a workout plan in the weight room that will get you to the weight that the coaches think you will be the most productive, while maintaining your speed and agility.  When they went through their plan with the nutritionist, it really stuck out to me a lot.”

Dixon said that he just felt like he had seen everything that he was going to see, and the time to end his recruitment had arrived.

“I really felt like it was a good time to end the recruitment because I thought all of the colleges that are going to offer, would have offered by this point,” said Dixon.  “I wasn’t planning on going to anymore camps.  I just felt like it was the right decision for me at the right time.”

On Friday, Dixon called three of the Wolfpack football coaches, and they were excited to get the phone call from him.

“I called Coach Faulkner, and he was actually with Coach Canada at the beach at the time,” said Dixon.  “They gave me Coach Doeren’s number, and I called him as well.  Coach told me that he was ecstatic.  He told me all of the stuff he had in store and that I had such a high ceiling with them, and he talked about winning the ACC.”

A little over a month ago, Dixon committed to Old Dominion, but he said that when NC State offered, it changed everything.

“At the moment I committed to Old Dominion, I felt like it was my best option,” said Dixon.  “I felt like Boston College was just too far, because I want my family to be able to come to the games.  There’s nothing wrong with Old Dominion.  The ultimate deciding factor was the distance, and the academic program that NC State offers.”
