How Ralston Turner Fits With Hornets

It has been announced that Ralston Turner will play for the Charlotte Hornets in the Orlando Summer League in the coming weeks. This could be a great opportunity for Turner, because the Hornets are in desperate need for outside shooting. This past season the Hornets were dead last in the NBA in 3PT%, at a dismal 31% clip. The Hornets must improve in this area if they want to make the playoffs again. Their best player is Al Jefferson who is an absolute monster on the low block, but he faced countless double teams this season! because no team respected the Hornets from outside. The only way for the Hornets to improve is to stockpile shooters to create more space for big Al.

Thus far they have been extremely active this off-season by acquiring Nicolas Batum, Jeremy Lamb, and Spencer Hawes. Then in the draft they selected Frank Kaminsky who is also capable of stretching the floor. It is clear that the Hornets are focused on improving their three-point shooting. It will be critical for Turner to prove that he is capable of knocking down threes this summer league. It is no secret that some of the worst basketball you will see occurs in these summer league games, which will make it difficult for Turner. Ralston is better suited for a more controlled game where he can have plays drawn for him; however, there will be very little structure in the upcoming games. In my opinion he will have to find his shot in the fast break and capitalize on his opportunities. If he can shoot around 45% from three in the summer league he will have an outside shot at making a roster.
