NC State Pursuing Chris Obekpa

Back on June 24th news broke that Junior Center Chris Obekpa (6’10″/236) had officially left St. John’s. Obekpa is St. John’s all-time leading shot blocker, collecting 321 over the past three seasons, and is one of the premier shot blockers in the NCAA. Last season he averaged 5.8 points, 7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. The native of Nigeria is currently on a visit up to the University of Minnesota, but I reached out to him, and he informed me that the NC State coaches are recruiting him to come play for the Pack.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Gottfried and Coach Early,” said Obekpa. “I’m trying to get down there for a visit soon.”

Obekpa will have to sit out a year due to transfer rules. Can the Wolfpack coaching staff reel in their second transfer of the offseason, joining UNCC transfer Torin Dorn?

Don’t waste time for a one year transfer.

That would be a great pickup. Means we have a serviceable center to backup/play along side BJ in 2016-2017.
