Last night United States Women’s Soccer coach Jill Ellis led the national team to a World Cup Championship, with a 5-2 victory over Japan.  This was the 4th time that the US Women’s team has made the finals out of 8 total World Cup’s.  With last nights win, the United States holds first place for the most World Cup Championships with 3.

Every coach gets their start somewhere, and Jill Ellis got her start in coaching as an Assistant Coach at NC State.

Ellis served as an Assistant with the Wolfpack from 1988-90.  While with the Wolfpack, she helped lead them to an ACC title in 1988, and to the Final Four that year as well.  After leaving her post at NC State, she went on to serve as an Assistant Coach at Maryland and Virginia, before taking on the head coaching responsibilities at Illinois and UCLA.  Ellis led the Bruins to 8 Final Fours, 6-straight Pac-12 titles, and earned National Coach of the Year honors in 2000.  She has served as a scout, assistant coach, and even interim-head coach prior to taking the helm on May 16, 2014.
