C.J. Wilson Injured in Firework Accident

Former NC State cornerback C.J. Wilson, and current member of the Tampa Bay Bucanners, suffered a severe hand injury this past weekend in an accident involving fireworks.  According to the Lincoln-Times News, Wilson’s hometown newspaper, he lost two of his fingers in the accident.

Wilson is in the final year of a two-year deal with the Bucs, which has a non guaranteed option for the upcoming season.

Here is the official response from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

“We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday,” the team said in a statement. “It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands, and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation.” (Via ESPN)

After going undrafted, Wilson has spent the past two seasons with the Bears and the Bucs respectively, and has seen action in 4 games.

My thoughts and prayers are with C.J. Wilson.
