4-Star PF Dylan Painter Talks NC State Offer

Roughly three hours ago the NC State coaching staff called 2014 4-star (ESPN) Power Forward Dylan Painter (6’10″/215) and offered him a scholarship. Painter has been playing AAU ball on the circuit with Team Final, and obviously impressed the Wolfpack coaches with his performance at the Peach Jam.

“The assistant coach called me and put me on with the head coach and they offered me,” said Painter. “This is the first time I’ve ever heard from them. They said they would call me at a later date to explain things in more detail from a basketball standpoint.  It was a good hearing from a program of that history.”

Painter has already taken official visits to Iowa and Xavier, and recently took an unofficial to Penn St. He told me that he plans on taking an official to Penn St., but doesn’t have any others planned currently.

When asked about the things that are important to him in a school, he listed the following things:

“Good relationships with the coaches,” said Painter. “A style of play that allows me to go inside out and do more than just set screens and rebound. A place where I could play early. And good overall vibe from campus and players.”

The Hershey, Pennsylvania native initially considered location to be a much higher priority before his recruitment began picking up.

“Location was a big factor at first, but since my recruitment has expanded its a little less, but close to home is a definite plus.” Said Painter.

Painter also holds offers from Xavier, Iowa, Penn St., Georgia Tech, and others.

Why doesn’t State offer every four or five in the country?  They need to make one commercial offering everyone a scholarship and show it all the time until we have four recruits.
