David Thompson is the best basketball player to ever play at NC State. That’s not even up for debate. In three years of varsity basketball, Thompson was a 3-time consensus 1st team All American, 3-time ACC Player of the Year, and 2-time National Player of the Year. In three seasons, Thompson averaged 26.8 points per game and shot 55.3% from the field. He scored 30+ points in 32 of his 86 career games. As it stands, Thompson is the 2nd all-time leading scorer in NC State history behind Rodney Monroe, but he only played 3 seasons compared to his four. The man known as Skywalker went on to be the #1 draft pick in the 1975 NBA draft.
