Matt Dayes on Doak Award Watch List

NC State Junior running back Matt Dayes was one of the names on the 2015 Doak Walker Award Watch List this morning, which has been awarded to the nations best running back since 1990.

Last season Dayes did something that NO OTHER player in the NCAA did. He was one of only three players nationally to post more than 300 yards rushing, receiving and in returns. But he was the ONLY player to record those numbers and also collect 5 touchdowns both rushing and receiving. This feat has only been done by 13 other players over the past 10 seasons. Let me drop a few names that he is in company with: Cordarrelle Patterson, Randall Cobb, C.J. Spiller, DeMarco Murray, Jeremy Maclin and Reggie Bush to name a few.

Dayes averaged a gaudy 5.5 yards per carry last season as a sophomore, and tallied 8 rushing touchdowns and 5 receiving touchdowns.  He rushed for 573 yards, collected another 321 yards receiving, and 376 yards on kick returns.

It’s going to be tough for him to put up attention-grabbing numbers with the half dozen RBs we’ve got in the stable, and I can see him getting snaps at wide receiver as well.  But for my money he’s as good as anyone in the country.
