Jerricho Cotchery on Roster Bubble

According to the Charlotte Observer, former NC State Wide Receiver Jerricho Cotchery might be on the bubble of making the roster for the Carolina Panthers as camp opens.  Here is what they had to say about the 12-year NFL veteran.

Why he’s on the bubble: Cotchery’s 2014 numbers were nearly identical to those he posted in Pittsburgh two years ago, with one notable exception: His touchdown catches fell from 10 to 1. The Panthers want to get second-round pick Devin Funchess on the field with Kelvin Benjamin. And with Ginn and Corey Brown serving as the speed guys, there might not be room for a 33-year-old possession receiver.

Why he could stick: Cotchery has stayed healthy throughout his 12-year career and is a sure-handed receiver who’s not afraid to go over the middle and take a hit. Plus, coaches love the professionalism he’s brought to the receivers room.

Last season Cotchery had 48 receptions for 580 yards and 1 touchdown for the Panthers.  Cotchery is owed $1.5 million in salaries and bonuses this season.

The 33-year old wide receiver has 485 receptions for 6,138 yards and 31 touchdowns throughout his 12-year career thus far in the NFL.

Besides Torry Holt, there has never been a better receiver at NC State.  Cotchery is the all-time leader in career receptions with 200, and he ranks 2nd receiving yards (3,119) and touchdowns (21).
