Former NC State Shortstop Trea Turner is currently ranked as the #13 overall Major League prospect according to MLB.com.
Before finally being traded by the San Diego Padres to the Washington Nationals, Turner was ranked as the #3 played in the organization. He slashed .322/.385/.471 in 58 games with the Padres Double-A affiliate.
On June 13th the trade finally went through and Turner only played 10 games for the Nationals Double-A affiliate before being promoted to Triple-A in Syracuse. In those 10 games he slashed .359/.367/.513.
Since being promoted to Triple-A he hasn’t slowed down much, batting a solid .291 in 29 games, and is batting .311 since the All-Star break. On the year, Turner is batting .317, with 7 home runs, 6 triples, 20 doubles and 21 stolen bases.
He is currently ranked as the #2 prospect in the Nationals farm system, and the #5 Shortstop prospect in baseball.
Rumors have swirled that the Padres were interested in trading to get Turner back, but the Nationals GM said that he was “pretty much untouchable.”
