Brock Miller Talks NC State Commitment

On Thursday night NC State picked up a big commitment from 3-star 2016 OLB Brock Miller.  He chose to run with the Wolfpack over Virginia, Virginia Tech, Cal and Kentucky.  I caught up with Miller yesterday to get his take on some of the reasons that he made the decision to play college football in Raleigh.

“For one, my head coach has known Coach Doeren the past 10 or 11 years.  They are always texting each other, and Coach Doeren was always asking my coach about me.  That was always really cool to hear,” said Miller. “Coach Huxtable was always giving me time, calling me and trying to get me to call him.  Their whole staff really, everyone from the Director of Recruiting, all the way up to the head coach, showed me some sort of love on Twitter and sending me messages.”

Even though Miller just finished playing his high school football career at John Carroll High School in Fort Pierce, Florida, location was actually a big factor for him in making this decision.

“Getting to play in the state of North Carolina was one of the biggest things.  It’s my favorite state.  I’ve always wanted to get back there,” said Miller. “I grew up in North Carolina until I was 8, and we have family that we go and visit there every summer.  Being able to get back there is definitely a huge perk that I always wanted to do.”

Miller was being recruited by numerous schools to play Defensive End, and the way that NC State planned on using him in their defensive scheme was another reason he committed to the Wolfpack.

“The way that NC State planned on using me was something that put them ahead for sure.  I know that some programs wanted to use me as a defensive end, and I didn’t want to play that right away,” said Miller. “I wouldn’t mind playing that down the road if I gain a lot of weight, but I didn’t want to play that coming into college.  I wanted to play outside linebacker.  It was good that they wanted me to play outside linebacker.”

At the end of the day, Miller really believes in the direction that the NC State football program is going, and he wants to be a part of something special.

“Going from 3 wins to 8 in one year is just crazy.  What Coach Doeren’s doing there is great.  There playing on the tougher side of the ACC,” said Miller. “They have to play FSU and Clemson every year.  If they can come out on the top of that side, there is a good chance they could win the whole thing.  In my mind, I think they are a program on the rise.  I think they could be contending for the top spot in their division as early as this year.  Helping a team get to the top, is something I would love to be a part of.
