Close-King Indoor Facility Paying Dividends

The $14 million dollar Close-King Indoor Facility was designed to give NC State every possible advantage when taking the field on Saturday’s. Coach Doeren and his players are already seeing the benefits of having an indoor facility.

Earlier this week, the News & Observer ran a piece on it, and NC State Senior running back Shadrach Thornton and Head Coach Dave Doeren talked about the impact it’s already made.

“Not many (colleges) can have an indoor facility. That’s one of the ways that we can kind of separate ourselves from the other schools,” said Thornton.  To become a championship team, you gotta have championship things, and this is one of those things.” (N&O)

You don’t have to have a rain plan anymore, Whatever we say we’re going to do, we’re going to do.”  said Doeren. (N&O)

Another positive that Coach Doeren hopes to gain from the practice facility is that it will keep the kicking game sharp in the winter.  Not many schools in the NCAA can boast the advanced facilities that NC State has.

NC State has already seen the impact of the Close-King Indoor Facility in the recruiting game.  Kollin Byers, DaeShawn Stephens, Chris Ingram and Damien Darden were all at the Alpha Wolf Showcase on July 24th.  Byers and Stephens actually committed that night on campus.  The Alpha Wolf Showcase also hosted some of NC State’s top football targets in DT Dexter Lawrence, QB Hunter Johnson, OL Jonah Melton, DE Xach Gill, RB Devon Lawrence.  In our interview with Brock Miller, he mentioned that it was the nicest “indoor facility he’s walked into.”  The Close-King Indoor Facility will be an important selling point in the years to come.
