NC State D-Line Depth Chart for Troy

NC State Football’s official Twitter account just released the Defensive Line depth chart for the Troy game.

There are no surprises with the starting four.  Sophomore Bradley Chubb and GR-Senior Mike Rose are the two starting Defensive Ends, and Sophomore’s Kentavius Street and B.J. Hill are the two starting Defensive Tackles.

Chubb played as a Linebacker last season, and primarily saw action on special teams.  He was moved to Defensive End this Spring and has obviously impressed the coaches.  Street was a Defensive End last season, but the coaches moved him to the interior because they thought his combo of size, strength and speed would be mismatch for his opponents.  Hill had more starts on the defense than any other Freshman last year, starting 5 of the final 6 games.  He was rewarded with the Philip Rivers Freshman of the Year Award.  The veteran of the line, Mike Rose, had 15 tackles for loss last year, which was good for 3rd in the ACC, and the 11th best single season total in NC State history.

Junior Monty Nelson will backup B.J. Hill at Tackle.  Nelson was plagued with injury last season, causing him to miss 7 games, and many forget that he was a 2nd Team Freshman All-American (Athlon). Sophomore Justin Jones is backing up Street at Tackle, and is a 4-star recruit that saw action in 10 contests last season.  RS Sophomore Pharoah McKever is backing up Chubb, and is a former Wide Receiver who saw action in 10 games last season (starting in 2) and recorded 3 tackles for loss.  Freshman Darian Roseboro is backing up Rose, and he is a 4-star true Freshman.

Freshman James Smith-Williams was an Outside Linebacker in high school, a Nickel Back in the Spring, and now sits as a 3rd string Defensive End.  RS Freshman Coult Culler was a Linebacker in high school, a Defensive End in the Spring, and now sits as a 3rd string Defensive Tackle.  Freshman Eurndraus Bryant is a big boy, weighing 350 pounds, and will use that weight as a 3rd string Defensive Tackle.  Freshman Emmanuel Olenga, out of Independence High School (Charlotte, North Carolina), is currently a 3rd string Defensive End.
