Jacoby Brissett Quietly Leads FBS in Comp %

NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett had a passing efficiency rating of 191.6 in the season opener against Troy on Saturday night and completed 91% of his passes, and to be honest it felt like a quiet performance.  Maybe it was due to the fact that the Wolfpack rushed for 251 yards compared to Brissett’s 196 passing yards, but Brissett was absolutely terrific.

The passing efficiency rating was the second best of his career (222.2 against UNC last year) and the completion percentage was his best mark.  In fact, Brissett had the best completion percentage of any FBS quarterback in week 1 of the 2015 season.

It was seven tenths of a percentage point away from being the best single game completion percentage in NC State history.  Back in 1992, Wolfpack quarterback Terry Jordan completed 92% of his passes against UNC.

He was 12 of 12 before throwing his first incompletion, and he broke the streak by throwing the ball away.  Brissett wasn’t paying attention to his streak of completions, and was completely unaware that he had ruined it when he wisely chucked the ball away.

“No. I wasn’t keeping track,” said Brissett. “One of our backups Josh was telling me about it. He told me about it in the first quarter, and then I forgot about it. Then he came up to me and asked ‘why did you throw it away? That was your first incompletion.’”

Brissett wasn’t just efficient on Saturday.  He was also extremely generous in his pass distribution, connecting with 9 different receivers.  He finished the evening with 2 passing touchdowns and no interceptions.

Jacoby Brissett is off to a quiet start to what could be a very loud season for the Wolfpack signal caller.
