Basketball Recruiting

NC State Really Likes Udoka Azubuike

Everyone knows that NC State’s top two prospects of the 2016 basketball recruiting class are point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and power forward Bam Adebayo.  If the coaches can land them, they would love to have a couple of other top flight prospects join them.  From what I’m hearing, one of those players on their wish list is center Udoka Azubuike.  Rivals and ESPN all rate him as a 5-star recruit, and Scout and 247 gives him 4 stars.  ESPN ranks him as the #22 player in the class, and the #3 center.

Azubuike came to the United States from Nigeria three years ago, and plays for Potter’s House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida.  While he has plenty of suitors, Azubike’s recruitment is still a bit of a mystery, because he hasn’t made it a major priority at this point.  Back in July, he did tell Scout’s Josh Gershon that Florida, Florida State, and Kansas were the three school that were recruiting him the hardest at that time.  But that was before NC State offered him last month on August 8th.

Azubuike’s body is already ready for the next level.  He’s 6’10” and 275 pounds, and that’s after losing 40 pounds this year, to the pleasure of all the college coaches.  He literally almost brought down the goal at the NBA Top 100 camp this summer with a one handed jam.

This summer Azubuike played AAU with the Georgia Stars, and averaged 13 points and 2 blocks, shooting 66% from the field on the circuit.

Azubuike holds offers from Auburn, Cal, Florida St., Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest.
