Dennis Smith Jr. Commits to NC State

According to Scout’s Evan Daniels, 2016 5-star Point Guard Dennis Smith Jr. has officially committed to NC State.

Smith Jr. followed up with a tweet of his own.

This comes one day after Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried and Assistant Coach Orlando Early visited the blue chip prospect by helicopter.

Dennis spoke with ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, and had this to say about his commitment to the Wolfpack.

“Growing up an NC State fan I knew they would be one of my top schools,” Smith said. “Coach [Mark] Gottfried made me a priority, showing up, sitting in front to all my games in the live periods. That loyalty meant a lot to me. After giving the decision a lot of thought we all felt State was the best situation for me.”

“They have been on me hard since my sophomore year,” Smith said of the Wolfpack. “The relationships I had with Coach Gottfried and Coach Early, I believe in them and they believe in me. State is an underdog in the ACC and at times in the state of North Carolina — I want to try and help them win a championship and I believe we can do it. They want me to come in and run the show and even though the returning roster will be older than me, I am very confident in my abilities.”

“My first call is going to be to Bam Adebayo and get him on board,” Smith added Thursday. (ESPN)

Smith is the #4 overall player in the 2016 class according to ESPN and Rivals, and he is also the #1 Point Guard in their rankings.   247 and Scout rank him 5th and 8th respectively, and the #2 and #3 point guard respectively as well.

Dennis please take WPN to the promised land. Oh what I would give for a 3rd National Title. But first things first, an ACC Title banner would be lovely.

Awww Yeah!!!

We have our PG of the future. I only saw this kid in 1 game but he was impressive. Unlike a lot of kids who are top recruits, Dennis is very unselfish with the ball. He only takes over a game when it is completely necessary. He would rather find the open man. And the kid plays defense. This is a major win for the coaching staff. Hopefully Dennis can bring in a bunch of his 5 star friends with him.

This is great news.  Hopefully he will recover 100% and gets Bam Bam to also commit.  They may stay only 1 year, but it will be fun to see what happens.
