NC State Coaches Looking to the Future

Published

on

The NC State coaches have been busy during this Recruiting Period, and they haven’t just been focusing on the near future.  They obviously visited with 2016 NC State commit Dennis Smith Jr. and 2016 Power Forward target Bam Adebayo by helicopter, and also visited 2016 Center Udoka Azubuike.  A lot of their attention has been turned to the 2017, 2018, and 2019 recruiting classes.  It is important to get out there early and build a relationship with these young prospects.  Don’t forget that NC State was the first school to offer Dennis Smith Jr. when he was a Sophomore.  Being the first on the scene can play a big role in a players eventual college decision.

Here is a breakdown of some of the recruiting targets that the Wolfpack staff will be checking out in the near future.

2017 Nicholas Claxton

Claxton (6’10”) is a 3-star Power Forward prospect out of Legacy Charter (Greenville, South Carolina).  He has flown under the radar up to this point, but has picked up offers from Temple, Southern California, and Murray St. this month.  South Carolina, Texas, and Baylor are some of the other schools that have expressed interest in Claxton.

2018 Kris Monroe

This summer 6’7″ Forward Kris Monroe reclassified to the 2018 class.  He played for South Granville High School last season (Creedmoor, North Carolina) and averaged 22 points and 11 points for them last year.  This year he has transferred to play at St. David’s School right in NC State’s backyard in Raleigh.  Monroe picked up an offer from UNC Greensboro this summer.

3 Westlake High School (GA) Prospects

Chuma Okeke (6’7″/205) is 4-star 2017 Small Forward who holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida St., Georgia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and others.  He currently doesn’t hold a Wolfpack offer.

Daniel Lewis (6’4″/170) is a 3-star Shooting Guard who holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and Xavier.

Jamie Lewis (6’2″/180) is a Point Guard in the 2018 class.  He currently ranks 47th in the Future150.

2019 Wendell Moore

The Future150 ranks Moore as the #6 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class.  The Shooting Guard out of Cox Mill High School (Concord, North Carolina) also has unofficial visits scheduled for Kentucky and Tennessee in the near future.  Moore is receiving attention from some of the top basketball programs in the country.  USAToday wrote an article back in January posing the question: “Is Wendell Moore the best 13-year old hooper since Andrew Wiggins?”  Coach Gottfried won’t be the only ACC coach trying to keep his talent in state.
