NC State Hopes to Set The Tone on the Road

The Wolfpack hits the road for the first time in 2015 today, and you could make the argument that NC State was nearly as good on the road as they were at home last year. They were 4-3 in Carter-Finley Stadium and 4-2 away from it.

Offense
The Wolfpack averaged 224 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in Carter-Finley last season. On the road they averaged 181 passing yards and 210 rushing yards. With that being said, the Wolfpack averaged 5.7 yards per carry at home, compared to 4.8 on the road. NC State averaged 30 more total yards of offense (424/394) at home, and 10 more points per game (33/23).

Defense
While the Wolfpack had a slight edge at home, the defense seemed to be more productive on the road. NC State allowed 324 yards of total offense on the road, compared to an average of 414 at home. the Wolfpack secondary held opposing quarterbacks to a 49% completion percentage on the road, compared to 58% at home. The main difference is that the defense held opponents to over 100 less rushing yards per game on the road, averaging 3 yards per carry.

Last year NC State set the tone for the rod schedule last year, when they defeated South Florida 49-17 down in the Sunshine State. Doeren is hoping today’s game against Old Dominion will produce similar results.
