BeeJay Anya Weight Down From 320 to 284lbs

According to Jon Rothstein of CBSSports, BeeJay Anya has made some significant offseason progress in terms of weight loss.

He’s down over 35lbs and apparently he’s not done yet.  Gottfried wants Anya at 275 by the start of the season, a goal that the big man is going to have to work hard to get to.

Let’s be honest, NC State’s front court is thin.  With Anya, Malik Abu and Lennard Freeman, they really don’t have room for any of them to be ill-prepared or injured come season time.  With Freeman coming off a fractured leg and likely to be brought along slowly, Anya is going to play a major role and major minutes right off the bat.  This will be a big challenge for Anya, who only averaged 19.4 minutes per game last season.

If worse comes to worst, Gottfried has talked about Cody Martin filling in at the 4, which might get you through some of the early season non-conference games, but will become a major issue if you’re relying on him as a power forward against ACC opponents.  At the end of the day, the point is that this team desperately needs ‘finished product’ BeeJay Anya.’  BeeJay being a project was fine over his first two seasons, but it’s getting to be now or never time for the Junior big man.  He had bright spots last season (as seen here in his season mixtape we recently posted), but the Pack will need much more consistency from him if they are going to be a true ACC contender.
