Friday may of been a dreary day when it came to the weather, but spirits were high at Broughton High School as NC State’s Chris Corchiani Jr. and Maverick Rowan put on a basketball clinic for special needs kids.  This kind of goodwill and service is what should be on the forefront when it comes to collegiate athletics.  It is refreshing to see that both Maverick and Chris are making an effort to give back to the community and double kudos for helping these kids have a memorable night.

Chris and Maverick both talked about how they want to be positive role models in the community, but were quick to say that they got a lot of enjoyment from the kids as well.  Chris stated, “just seeing the smiles on these kids faces…it’s priceless.”

WRAL interviewed a couple of kids that were in attendance.  Austin Brown-Faber was ecstatic as he explained what the experience meant to him, “These State players mean the world to me and I greatly appreciate that they came.”

It should also be noted that Wynn Burrus , a senior at Broughton, was responsible for orchestrating the visit.  Not only did she help with this visit, but she has also arranged for dances in the winter and spring for the special needs students at Broughton.  Her quote sums it up best,

“It is the most amazing feeling ever, honestly, just to know I’m part of making someone else’s day so special,” she said. “I mean it might not mean that much to us, but it’s something they’ll remember the rest of their lives.”
