NC State Running Backs Coach Des Kitchings was named the Running Backs Coach of the Week by CoachingSearch.com this week.

NC State averaged 8.0 yards per carry on 41 attempts in a 63-13 win over South Alabama. Three different running backs averaged at least 9.3 yards, and another was at 5.8. The Wolfpack are rolling on the ground this season, leading the nation with 20 rushing touchdowns. (CoachingSearch)

Des Kitchings Bio

Des was one of the best players to ever play football at Furman. He is the schools all-time leader in receptions and returns. As a Senior he was a consensus All-Southern Conference selection as a receiver and as a returner. That year he also earned 1st team All-American honors after leading the NCAA Division I-AA in return average.

Kitchings was drafted in the 7th round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and went on to spend four years in the league.

Coaching Career 

Furman – Helped mentor Larry Hedden, Willis Sudderth and John Rust to all-conference recognition.

Vanderbilt – Helped Warren Norman earn SEC Freshman of the Year and a freshman All-American.

Air Force – In his one season at Air Force, the Falcons ranked third nationally in rushing averaging 314.8 yards per game. In 2011, Air Force finished third nationally with 43 rushing touchdowns.

NC State – The 2014 Wolfpack posted the fourth-best rushing total in school history (2,659) and the best per game average since 1992. RBs Shadrach Thornton and Matt Dayes combined with QB Jacoby Brissett to give NC State three 500 yard rushers for the first time since 1973.
