Last night former NC State Shortstop Trea Turner hit his 1st Major League home run in the top of the 6th inning of the Nationals 2-1 loss to the Braves.  Turner led off the inning and took the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to tie the game.

Turner told Nationals.com that he doesn’t hit them out of the park very often, and it never gets old when he does.

“It’s always nice to hit a home run, no matter if it’s your first or your last. It’s always fun, especially for me. I don’t hit many. I enjoy every second of it,” Turner said.

In his last 7 seven games (3 starts) Turner is 6 for his last 13 at the plate (.462), including a double and a home run.  He has started the past two games (1 at SS and 1 at 2B) and has batted 2nd in the lineup.

Here are Turner’s statistics through 23 games (24 at bats):

.292 batting average/5 runs/7 hits/1 double/1 home run/1 RBI/4 walks/2 stolen bases/.393 on-base percentage/.458 slugging percentage/.851 OPS

Turner is expected to be the starting shortstop of the Nationals in 2016.
