Clemson 56 NC State 41: Offensive Notes

NC State’s offense fought a hard fight, but ultimately lost in a 56-41 shootout tonight at Carter-Finley Stadium.  Here are some offensive notes.

Key Players

QB – Jacoby Brissett – 24 of 42 for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns (0 interceptions).  His 3 touchdowns tie a career high.  Brissett has now thrown 3 touchdowns 5 times in his career.

RB – Matt Dayes – 9 carries for 72 yards (8 yards per carry).  Dayes did all of this in the first half.  He didn’t play in the 2nd half after suffering a toe injury.  The extent of his injury is not known at this point.

FB/TE – Jaylen Samuels – 6 rushes for 65 yards (10.8 yards per carry) and 1 rushing touchdown/8 receptions for 74 yards and 1 touchdown.  Samuels’ 8 receptions were a career high.  He has 6 rushing touchdowns and 5 receiving touchdowns on the year, and his 11 total touchdowns are the 14th most in NC State history by a player in a single season.  

TE – David Grinnage – 7 receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.  His 7 receptions were a career high for Grinnage.  His previous high was 4 receptions on September 27th last year against Florida St.

Team Stats

NC State averaged 5.7 yards per play, which is the most since the season opener against Troy (6.6).

NC State’s 41 points is the 5th highest point total the Wolfpack has ever secored against Clemson.
