The Wolfpack turned in what could of been their most complete game of the season as they defeated Syracuse 42-29. It was a great game for the Pack to gain some momentum before the season finale versus UNC next weekend.

Offensively the Pack had a balanced attack as they moved the ball with ease on the ground and through the air. Leading the ground attack was a combination of Nichols, Gallaspy, and Hines. Hines by the way had a huge impact on the game as he ran for 70 yards and a score, 69 yards receiving, and 69 yards on the return game. The true freshman was excellent. However another true freshman had his best game in his young career, that freshman was Reggie Gallaspy. Reggie earned 81 yards rushing and great praise from Doeren who complimented his power and pad level. Throughout the game he finished runs with authority and looked to be what the Pack have been missing since Thorton’s departure.

As a whole State combined for 276 yards on the ground which proved to be too much for the Orangemen. The ground game helped boost a passing attack as Jacoby cruised for 231 yards passing and two scores. The offense looked fluid and primed for next weeks rivalry match against UNC.

On the other side of the ball the defensive unit was solid but had two mental lapses that cost them dearly. I am afraid this is something we must accept at this point in the season, I don’t see it changing. Once again the Pack let up a touchdown at the end of the half that allowed Syracuse momentum. That momentum carried into the first drive in the second half as Syracuse scored on its first carry of the second half; luckily the Wolfpack steadied the ship as the offense answered with a TD on the next possession. After that the Wolfpack got some answers on the defensive end by pressuring the QB and creating some turnovers. In the second half NC State forced a fumble and interception.

On the day NC State proved to be much improved. They have gotten better and appear to be approaching their absolute best as the season is rapidly approaching its’ swan song. The only way this team wants to finish their season is with a win next weekend. It was a great effort by the players and staff as the team didn’t overlook the Orangemen  before the big game next weekend.

I was very impressed with the atmosphere at the game today. It was military appreciation day for the Pack and they did a womderful job of showing their appreciation for those who have served our country and continue too. There is no doubt just how important this day was to NC State.

One week from today the regular season will come to a close, hopefully it will end with a win over our rival school, UNC. After today’s result I believe next weeks game may be one for the ages.
