Belk Bowl Outlook

Belk Bowl: December 30th 3:30PM

Location: Charlotte, NC (Bank of America Stadium)

TV: ESPN

History:

This will mark NC State’s 3rd trip to the Belk Bowl (name changed to Belk Bowl in 2011) since its’ inception in 2002. They first appeared in 2005 playing against USF. In that game the Wolfpack defeated USF 14-0. Brian Clarke and Andre Brown each scored at TD, but it was Stephen Tullock who walked away with MVP honors, recording 15 tackles, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble. Still to date it is the only time a team has been shutout in the bowl’s history.

NC State once again played in the Belk Bowl in 2011, beating the Louisville Cardinals. It was one of David Amerson’s best games in the Red & White, recording two interceptions, one of which he took back for a score. Leading the way for the offense was Mike Glennon. He threw three touchdowns, connecting with TJ Graham for two of them. NC State found a way to hold on as they won by a touchdown. Mike Glennon was crowned MVP.

What’s at Stake?:

NC State has an opportunity to finish the season with a big win over an SEC foe. It is always motivating for the ACC to go head to head with the SEC on the gridiron and this is a big one for Dave Doeren. He has struggled during his tenure at State versus teams that finish with a winning record. While at the helm, Coach Doeren is just 2-21 when facing such opponents. If the Pack can walk away with the W, it would be a great boost for the program heading into the off-season.

Doeren also has a good record when he’s given extra time to prepare. I’d bet on the pack
