Local 5-Star DT Dexter Lawrence Makes Choice Today

UPDATE: He chose Clemson

Wake Forest 5 star defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence is a beast. He’s ranked as the 3rd best prospect in the nation and number 1 in NC.

“Dexter’s size is uncanny for a high school athlete,” Lucas said. “He’s 6-5, 335 pounds. His ability comes with that. He’s running right at a 5.0 40. His quickness is second to none with guys his size. I think his speed and athletic ability is phenomenal for a kid his size. I think that makes him special.” (from Orange&White)

He has had over 20 offers and has cut them down to just five. His top three are said to be Alabama, Clemson and NC State. Also in the running are Florida and UNC. However, NC State is the most fresh on his mind.

Lawrence just completed his official visit to NC State this past weekend which reportedly went very well. He had some out of town family fly in for the visit, which might suggest that he’s very serious about the Pack, or it could just be the holiday season and they used this as an excuse to come down early and take in a visit. The bad news is that this visit wasn’t on the books at first. It was a more recent development that somehow NC State was able to swing. So either Lawrence has only come to a final decision in the last few days and it’s going to be State, or this visit was just him being polite and seeing NC State out.

Smart money is probably on Clemson in this one, but State is in the mix for sure and if this visit was enough, it could have tipped the scales.

Lawrence makes his final decision today at 3:30pm.
