NC State Basketball

Cody Martin Questionable

Cody Martin injured his ankle on a vital steal and dash to the hoop with 16.6 seconds remaining, Martin was fouled when he was tangled up with High Point’s guard Weary. Good news is that there isn’t any fracture and no signs that it will require anything more than normal treatment to get him back on the court. His status is still uncertain for this weekend’s game at Missouri.

Where does that leave the Pack if Cody is unable to play? It leaves NC State extremely thin as they will only have 6 scholarship players to choose from. In all seriousness it means that Shaun Kirk will have to play and possibly walk-on point guard Chris Corchiani Jr. I am intrigued at seeing Corchiani play as he is a true point guard, who I think can hold his own in relief of Barber.

Who knows maybe Corchiani can prove that he is capable of playing in spots, and give Gottfried another option to give Cat a breather from time to time. Shaun Kirk is a work in progress who doesn’t appear to be ready for basketball at a collegiate level. The most likely outcome if Cody has to miss a couple of games, will be an even tighter rotation and a more conservative scheme defensively. Which is disheartening as I feel like more aggression and risk need to be employed on the defensive side of the court.  More updates will follow as we get closer to tip-off.
