Spring Game Highlights

Yesterday was a chilly windy day in the capital, but that didn’t stop NC State’s fans from coming out to checkout the preseason Red & White game. It was a fun day that featured plenty of fan activities, an alumni game, and the featured intra-squad scrimmage. It was much anticipated to get a first glimpse of the QB situation and new offensive coordinator Eli Drinkwitz’s scheme.

The Red team did not disappoint as they won 47-0, it should be noted that the Red team was comprised of the starters. The score should be taken with a grain of salt, but it did appear that McClendon and Meyers were comfortable making the throws and reads. The wind was whipping but McClendon completed 13-18 attempts for 120 yards and a score. Meyers on the other hand was 12-20 for 117 yards, he also ran for 40 yards and a score on 10 attempts.

As for rushing it was Hines and Fraiser who carried the load for the Pack. Hines ran for 72 yards on 9 carries and a score. Frasier had 62 yards on 15 carries and 2 scores. It was good to see both Hines and Frasier as they are great complementary runners. Both players were the featured options as Matt Dayes and Jaylen Samuels did not play due to injury. Samuels sprained his MCL in a scrimmaged which held him out, and Dayes still coming back slowly.

It will be imperative that the Pack keep pushing harder and harder as the season gets closer. A big factor will be health, and State must make sure they manage both Samuels and Dayes properly to have those guys at 100 percent once the season starts!
