Trea Turner Hits 1st Walk-Off Home Run

Last night former NC State shortstop Trea Turner, who is the reigning National League Rookie of the Month, hit his first career walk-off home run.

In 52 games with Washington, the 2014 first-round pick (13th overall) is hitting .345 with a .925 OPS and 21 stolen bases in 24 tries. Since the All-Star break, his six triples are the most in baseball and his 74 hits are second most. As if that weren’t enough, he has been surprisingly serviceable in center field, despite being a shortstop up until about, oh, two months ago, when the center field-starved Nationals decided to tinker with converting him. Add it all up, and even though he spent the first half of the season in the minors, Turner is sure to get plenty of love in the rookie of the year voting. ESPN
