Can NC State Stop ODU’s Ray Lawry?

Think that’s a silly question? It’s ODU, as in Old Dominion University. No one really should be scared of them, right? We did slaughter them last season 38-14 at their place, right?

I understand. ODU isn’t a game that many people are really nervous about, but it also isn’t one that anyone should take lightly. The reason I say that is Ray Lawry.

Lawry is a junior running back for ODU who is on fire to start the season. He’s already put together a bunch of highlight reel runs and two games with pretty gaudy numbers. He went for 172 yards and two TDs on 14 carries and two catches in their drubbing of Hampton, then turned around and put up 119 yards and a TD on 15 carries versus App State.

The kid is fast, lighting quick and has already broken off some massive runs. It was only two years ago in his second career game for the Monarchs that Lawry ripped the Pack for 74 yards and 3 TDs. Last year was more of the same, while he only had 15 yards on the ground he picked up 71 yards and a TD in the air.

It’s not just us trying to warn you about this guy, just today Deadspin put up this article about why Ray Lawry is a good enough reason to tune into ODU this season, accompanied by this highlight reel.

We fully believe the Pack should win this one with ease, but we also think they need to focus hard on keeping Lawry bottled up.
