NC State Week 1 NFL Recap

NC State currently has 16 players on NFL rosters. Here is a recap of how the former Wolfpack players did in week 1.

QB Russell Wilson (Starter/82 snaps)was 27 of 43 for 258 yards, accompanied by 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Wilson suffered a minor ankle injury during the game, but managed to guide the Seahawks to yet another 4th quarter comeback. With 31 seconds to go, Wilson connected with wide receiver Doug Baldwin for a 2-yard touchdown to win the game. Wilson’s QB rating was 77.5. ProFootballFocus.com gave Wilson an average grade of 76.7 on his performance (78 pass and 45 run). Wilson’s low grade on the run was due to a lost fumble and being sacked 3 times.

QB Philip Rivers (Starter/72 snaps) was 25 for 36 for 243 yards and a touchdown, equaling a quarterback rating of 97.3. The Chargers lost to the Chiefs 27-33, and they also lost star wide receiver Keenan Allen for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. ProFootballFocus.com gave Rivers an average grade of 72.8 (69.5 pass & 77 run)

CB David Amerson (Starter/66 snaps) collected 4 tackles in the Raiders 35-34 victory over the Saints. ProFootballFocus.com gave Amerson an average grade of 73.5 (72.8 pass coverage & 75.1 run defense).

OL Joe Thuney (Starter/71 snaps) and the New England Patriots defeated the Cardinals 23-21. ProFootballFocus.com gave Thuney a below average grade of 62.4 (82.9 on pass block & 38.7 on run block).

DE Mario Williams (Starter/45 snaps) picked up a sack in his first game as a member of the Dolphins, and in doing so he pulled former Wolfpack star Russell Wilson to the ground. The Dolphins lost 12-10, and Williams had to leave the game in the fourth quarter due to suffering a concussion. Williams finished the game with 2 tackles and 1 sack. ProFootballFocus.com gave Williams a poor grade of 38.7 (45 pass rush & 35.9 rush defense)

LB Willie Young (Starter/48 snaps) didn’t record any stats in the Bears  23-14 loss to the Texans. ProFootballFocus.com gave Young a poor grade of 44.9 (45 pass rush & 71.3 run defense)

CB Dontae Johnson (Reserve/9 snaps) made the most of his opportunities in the 49ers 28-0 victory over the Rams on Monday night football. He only played 9 snaps, but picked up two tackles and 1 pass breakup. ProFootballFocus.com gave Johnson an average grade of 74.7 (74.7 pass coverage & 60.7 run defense)

DT T.Y. McGill (Reserve/21 snaps) and the Colts lost to the Lions 39-35. ProFootballFocus.com gave McGill a poor grade of 42.2 (48.4 run defense & 64.6 pass rush)

K Steven Hauschka connected on both of his field goal attempts (38 & 39) and had an extra point blocked in the Seahawks 12-10 victory over the Dolphins.

LB Stephen Tulloch (Reserve/1 snap) failed to record any stats in his 1 snap of play in the Eagles 29-10 victory over the Browns.

QB Mike Glennon didn’t play in the Bucs 31-24 victory over the Falcons.

CB Juston Burris didn’t play in the Jets 23-22 loss to the Bengals.

LB Audie Cole didn’t play in the Vikings 25-16 victory over the Titans.

OL Ted Larsen didn’t play in the Bears 23-14 loss to the Texans.

QB Jacoby Brissett didn’t play in the Patriots 23-21 victory over the Cardinals.

OL J.R. Sweezy started the season on the Bucs PUP list due to a back injury.
