Mario Williams Status For Sunday Unknown

Former NC State Defensive End Mario Williams suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Seahawks, and his status for this week’s matchup against the Patriots is unknown.  He has been following the NFL’s concussion protocol set up to protect players.

Williams, an 11-year veteran, must undergo a battery of NFL-mandated tests before he can begin practicing with his teammates.

Even after the tests, Williams, who contributed two tackles and one sack in the season opener, might not be cleared to play Sunday against the New England Patriots because of the NFL and NFLPA’s newly created concussion protocol program, which is far more rigid than in years past.

“As coaches, it’s just one of those things where we back away. There’s a process in place that the NFL has, and we just follow those,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase said. “If he makes it to the game, that means he’s been cleared through all those processes. If it takes longer than that, then that’s what it is.” (SunSentinel)

Apparently, part of the NFL protocol involves smashing medicine balls into the wall outside the practice facility.

I feel bad for the wall.

We will have to wait and see if Mario will suit up for the Dolphins against the Pats on Sunday.
