NC State Listed as Top 5 Value Pick for National Championship Odds

CBS has released an article listing their top 5 value picks for winning the National Championship, and, lo and behold, NC State came in at #4.

The list is based on vegas odds vs. real team talent. This doesn’t mean CBS thinks NC State is a top 5 team, it means they think Vegas is severely underestimating NC State’s chances of winning the national championship. This makes them a value pick against the odds. Here is what CBS had to say:

NC STATE
Odds to win national title: 125/1

So, if you’ve got one of the three best point guards in college basketball, you probably shouldn’t be below 75/1. But NC State is that, despite having Dennis Smith, Jr., who could be a top-six pick in next June’s NBA Draft. Smith is shifty, strong, athletic and a tremendous passer. This will be Mark Gottfried’s most watchable team since he took over the program in 2011. Last season was the only year the Wolfpack failed to reach the Dance in his tenure, by the way. Smith will have Abdul-Malik Abu — a top-100 player — down low, plus BeeJay Anya, Terry Henderson and stud sophomore Maverick Rowan. Can’t wait to watch this team. Has potential to be top-four in the ACC, which will be the best league in college basketball this season.

We may have jumped the gun thinking the hype on this team has reached it’s peak with the top 25 inclusion a few days ago, but talking NC State and National Championship in the same sentence…it looks like we’re headed into unchartered territory, folks.

So do you agree or disagree? Does NC State really have a better than 1/125 chance of brining home the National Championship, or is this just more unnecessary hype that serves as a distraction to the team?
