4 star 2017 Guard Thomas Allen (6’2″/180) out of Garner (NC) officially visited NC State this weekend, and it didn’t take him long to make his decision. He tweeted out this picture to let the world know that he would running with the Wolfpack.

Here is what Allen had to say to Rivals.com’s Eric Bossi about his commitment.

“I just felt like it was the right place for me,” Allen told Rivals.com. “My family loved and I loved it.

“I’ve been loving NC State since Sidney Lowe was there and growing up watching T.J. Warren play there I would go over for a lot of games. The style of play fits what I was trying to do with my commitment.”

“I really like the coaching staff,” said Allen. “The consistency they had recruiting me. They came to Garner a lot and Butch Pierre has been recruiting me since he came over from Oklahoma State. I just really feel like they made me a priority.”

“I see myself running the team and making shots,” said Allen. “I want to be a play maker. Coach Gottfried wants me to play the point and if I need to he will play me at the wing or as a combo guard.” (Rivals)

Here is HoopSeen’s analysis of Allen:

Attending Brewster Academy for his final year of prep ball, Allen is a fine acquisition for the ACC bunch. While he isn’t an explosive athlete and is more of a scoring guard rather than a facilitator at the lead guard spot, what Allen does not lack for is toughness in the backcourt and the willingness to do whatever it might take for his squad to come out with the win.

Running with the Garner Road travel bunch this past summer on the adidas circuit, the Carolina native was the catalyst for his squad reaching great success throughout the month of July. During his final weekend of play in Las Vegas, Allen showed how talented he really was by scoring the basketball from inside and out, while also displaying much better playmaking abilities than he had in tow earlier in the year. All of which accumulated with a run to the adidas Summer Championships final, an even that is the premier contest for the particular shoe brand circuit.

Beating out the likes of St. Louis, NC State, and Ohio State for the guard’s commitment, Allen is a plug-in for potential one-and-done Dennis Smith at the lead guard spot next year. Whether he can handle the primary guard spot immediately is up for debate but what isn’t is Allen’s ability to shoot the basketball and defend it on the other end of the floor. (HoopSeen)

He was initially scheduled to take his official visit to Raleigh on the weekend of October 28-30, but after Mark Gottfried visited Allen at Brewster Academy (New Hampshire) yesterday, plans apparently have changed.

Back on August 29th, Allen announced his final five schools of NC State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, and Saint Louis.

Allen is from Garner, and plays AAU with Garner Road, so it meant a lot when the Wolfpack offered Allen a scholarship back on June 10th.
