Wootten Earns Second ACC Defensive Player of the Week Honor
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State women’s soccer goalkeeper Sydney Wootten earned the ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor after a seven-save performance against Boston College clinched a 1-0 milestone victory for the Wolfpack. It marks Wootten’s second ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

In addition to making the routine saves, Wootten had a few one-on-one saves against a talented core of Boston College attackers to hold the No. 8 scoring offense in the NCAA without a goal.

The team earned its fifth shutout of the season and its second shutout against an ACC opponent with the win.

The San Diego, Calif., native is now up to 42 saves on the year and has dropped her goals against average to 0.77 and improved her save percentage to .824.

The performance helped the Pack improve to 9-3-0(3-1-0 ACC). The victory marks the first time since 2006 that the Wolfpack has won three ACC matches and back-to-back ACC contests.

Earlier this season, Wootten earned her first ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting eight saves in a shutout win over then No. 7 North Carolina.

The goalkeeper was also named an honorable mention on Top Drawer Soccer’s Oct. 4th team of the week.
